View Full Version : Alcohol in camping area

Last year I was VERY disappointed in the camping area and we resorted to drinking in the filthy, dirty parking lot. This year they seem to be enhancing the camping area by giving campers a 300sq ft area but will there still be no alcohol allowed in the area? Will our bags be extensively searched yet again? It doesn't seem worth it if that is the case again this year.

this has been the case sens the inception of SC they will most definitely go threw your bags if you stay in the tent camping area. I have never heard of a case of them going threw an RV i was in ed2 last year and we took in 6 36packs in our trailer and even left to go get more in my truck. so if you don't want to be searched my advise is stay in the RV ares. spend a little more and have your beer in your camper or spend less and drink in the parking lot.

probably because you where out side the fenced area and thats called drinking in public and that is illegal =( but thats why its worth the money to be in ed2

Kymery

Well, as with any event, tailgaiting is actually illegal, it is just whether the venue lets it go or not. So it isn't just SC, WWF, Ontario, Staples etc...it is just how well they police it. We got spoiled the first year of SC, then I think it just is getting so big, they have to curb it somehow, and they are starting to get stricter, it is the city of Indio and the legalities of it. Sucks I know, but it is what it is. Rent an RV :0)

Even The Angels Stadium is closing down an area of tailgating due to the rowdieness it brings. One bad apple spoils it for the rest of them.

Yea exactly. YOu just have to make the best of it in the tent area. If you go with the right group and are open minded to have a good time it will be a great weekend. We still had a blast. The only reason we stayed in tents was because ED2 was sold out and i was not willing to fork out $750. ha ha. This year will be amazing though. ED2 here we come! ha ha

Yes you will be searched again going in the camping arera. Make friends with a security guard, we got in 20 ice chests or something ridiculous (ok, ONE person in our group did it, but it was done). They gave me my vodka back and let me in. And the cops in the parking lot didn't ticket us at all, in fact they said when they got off they wanted to come have a drink with us! We jus tmade the best of the situation.

That said, it's ED2 all the way this year!

Just an idea for anyone who will be tent camping - make friends with a person who will be camping in the RVs and have them bring in your alcohol - then u can take a back pack or whatever and carry it in from RV area to tent area - they werent checking ur bags when u came back in only when u go in and out of the parking lot area. And yes it might be heavy but it should work.

Not sure where you were camping, but we hung out and drank in the parking lot outside the tent camping gate the entire weekend. We had a 55 person game of flip cup going, and the security guards and local cops came by and drank with us when they got off. Where you @ the right stagecoach :p

I have to second this from WacosSon. I walked down the aisle of cars with my mini keg of Heineken and stopped to chat with a cop with it in hand. No problems. Was it perhaps an age issue regarding being ticketed?

Well....I know this is gonna sound rude...BUT I will risk that, here it goes....guess you should not even plan on going into the venue then.

It gets pretty crazy in there and there is no "family" area in there. They sell liquor in there..many even sneak it in....or just go in hammered as hell. It isn't just the camping area you need to watch out for. In fact we left a couple times to go back to the rig to toss a few back.

Looks they have changed they tent camping for Coachella, maybe Stagecoach will get to do them same. Cars next to your tents and beer allowed, will just have to wait and see if SC gets them same in tent camping as Coachella fans do the week before. I hope so, I dont wanna make eight trips to get everything ionto the tent camping area again, and be checked everytime. last year sucked the 2 years prior weren't as bad!

Hope it is better this year. But can anyone answer why in 2007 the first SC there was 27 acts preforming on Saturday and this year 2010 there is 28 TOTAL acts for the whole weekend????? and more money for tickets and camping, but less artists?????

ok i found this in the coachella web sit WTF if it is put on buy the same people why the 2 sets of rules ?

Can we bring alcohol?

Reasonable amount of beer (limited to 1 case of beer per person) (NO KEGS, NO GLASS, NO LIQUOR), for personal consumption only (NO VENDING), by folks who are of legal age (21), will be permitted to be brought onto the camping areas (not concert area). If, however, in the security's judgment it appears that the amount of alcohol is excessive for the number of persons in the vehicle, or if anyone in the vehicle is under 21 years of age, the organizers reserve the right to deny entry of the vehicle and/or confiscate the alcohol. Kegs may not be brought onto the property. Please keep these things in mind and be sensible about how much you plan to bring in. Beer will be available for purchase on the concert field. Yes boxed wine is ok to bring too.

Hate to admit it, but I think we're gonna have to pass on SC10 for this very reason. Unless they change what they've already written on their site, they are not doing what Coachella is doing.

Kills me because the line up is so good, and there's nothing I wanted more than to see Ronnie and Kix one last time, but the "nazi" rules are out of control. I understand...there's city code, insurance, vendors to worry about, etc. But as we can all see according to Coachella, it can be done. Sad, because as its been said, the country crowd is way more mellow than the Coachella crowd. With the exception of some fight hungry marines and some overly confident Inland Empire bros, the weekend goes off without major incident. At least there's no Kid Rock to ruin the weekend this year.

Anyway, I digress. We'll miss you SC10. As soon as your organizers get it in gear and realize that they can't make you bend over and pay a thousand dollars for a weekend while simultaneously depriving you of a party, we'll return. Organization and responsibility are one thing, but we pay WAAAAAY too much to attend Stagecoach to worry about whether we're going to be able to throw back a bud light while lounging by our tent.

Until next time, work hard and play harder, people!

What exactly r u talking about??

Coachella is allowing the tent campers to bring their cars next to their tents, AND allow a case of beer per person in the campgrounds. They also have RV camping this year...like SC. So we are not happy that Coachella is getting those privileges and we aren't...at least at this time. NO alcohol is allowed at SC (not that we dont have it anyway) but would be nice to have it "allowed"

WacosSon
03-01-2010, 08:34 PM
What exactly r u talking about??

I figured the title of this thread would have answered that question.

I will quickly elaborate:

For the last few years we've been told that alcohol is not allowed in the camping area because they city forbids it for insurance purposes. Every moderator, every security guard, every coordinator will tell you this. Now that Coachella has started allowing alcohol, I for one feel VERY lied to. It's complete BS. The cops last year told us that SC's rules were self imposed and had nothing to do with the city. But now their word, complied with coachella's new rules call on the carpet any excuse the SC coordinators make.

So we're not returning this year. We're hoping that SC can figure it out. They seem to make up rules as they go, which seems to be why they release information just days (and sometimes hours) ahead of time. There's nothing in stone, and what is in stone is being proved BS. Sure, we could come and party in the parking lot like normal, and listen to the lies about city permits, but I'll wait until they have to come clean and actually allow it. Hopefully they will eventually be organized enough to give us fans what we want. It's not a one night show, its a festival, and there are ways things are done. For me to pay hundred and hundreds of dollars to sit in the back of my truck and drink for 3/4 of the day rather than be comfortable in the camping area is ridiculous. I'll go see the 2-3 good headliners at their individual concerts for the same price.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the issue for me is deeper than being allowed to down a beer. Its how a festival is ran, and SC needs to learn a few things...

We have always camped in RV camping for this reason. Last year we got stuck in tent camping. We didnt know that you couldnt bring alcohol in...Luckily, a security guard told us to slip him some cash (wrong thing to do I know) and he'd pull our ice chest in through the side gate and we could redcup it. I dont recommend this. We almost had to haul almost 200 beers 3 miles back to the car and my husband had a blown out knee. It worked.

nazi's killed millions of people because of their religion, etc., nice comparison :/ you not being able to drink a fuckin' beer is hardly the end of the world...and if it is then that's really pathetic. not to mention that if you have a few brain cells you can find a way to get it in. i'm sure everyone who wanted to drink while camping last year was able to do so just fine.

Very true. The very first year, as we were driving in, the promotor was on the local radio station and announced BBQ ARE allowed..so we pulled over, bought shrimp, steaks etc. As we were BBQing that same promotor stopped by to chat about the festival with us. Had a great time. But..NO BBQ's any year after that. So hang in there for any changes that will come our way.

Everyone needs to chill out... Last year me and my buddy had the same difficulty of getting it in, but being the creative college alcoholics we are, put our heads together and figured it out.

If you have vodka, and cases of water, put the vodka into water bottles and carefully switch out water bottles with vodka bottles in your cases of water.

Darker alcohol (whiskey, rum, etc.), either 1. put into water bottles and throw it in the pants or 2. Stick it into an extensive tent bag, and find the security guard that is doing the least extensive searches. The pants solution makes for a bit of an uncomfortable walk, but take a few shots and you won't know the difference; good to go.

As for our coolers and coolers of beer... easiest way is to pay off a security guard in one of the side entrances (obviously don't try this for the main entrance, it won't work). For 20 bucks he turned his head and we walked straight in with 2 coolers of beer.

And yes, all the security guards walking around could care less about drinking. We had beer bongs, flip cup, and beer pong all going on with the people we met around our tent and security walking around just wanted to make sure it was in a red cup. They don't give a shit.

Keep in mind people, Stagecoach is meant to be a drunken party. So don't let your lack of creativity stop you. However, if that doesn't work just avoid all the hassle, RV it, and come find us... we'll be the ones partying till sunrise in Stick and Ball.

Good luck to all and Merry Stagecoach.

Everyone needs to chill out... Last year me and my buddy had the same difficulty of getting it in, but being the creative college alcoholics we are, put our heads together and figured it out.

If you don't plan to exit and re-enter with your car/truck THAT IS TOWING THE TRAILER, then you don't need to purchase this pass

so does this mean, if im getting the rv delivered, that i can put my car in there and not have to pay 150.00 car pass ? does anyone know? i got the above info off the site...
thanks for the info

Last year the guards would let you in if you got there early to unload...once you were in you were IN!!.

Later, they would not let anyone in, no matter how much you had to unload or if you had one delivered. People were hauling things a mile to get to their RV from their cars...EVEN US ADA PEOPLE!! (handicap parkers)

So don't plan on getting your vehicle to your "delivered rv"...again, if you are lucky, you will be able to, but don't count on it. Bring a wagon!!!

I suggest you come prepared to haul your stuff from the parking lot far away. Best case scenario is your allowed in and you dont need it. Worst case is you come prepared because you read these posts. Like Kymery said, and I cant stress enough, Bring a wagon and/or a couple dollys just in case. You will guarantee use them for store runs and when other people come late and are not let in with their cars to drop stuff off.

Yes, good chance, but DON'T bank on it! Be prepared. A dolly or a wagon for sure! Like I said, even us ADA had to haul our crap and I just don't get that rule!! It can be a good 1/2 mile or more walk to your RV if you are unfortunate enough.

Don't say you don't plan on leavin. You may need a run to the store. Usuallyyou will find a neighbor who is going and throw then a couple bucks to pick you up some things, ice, drinks, etc. (pricey at the SC camping store)

Yes they do. Someone correct me if I am wrong. The first year there was a HUGE area with all the artists you can buy from, it was inside the venue...but this last year, that one was gone and there was one that was right after you showed your ticket...and NOT all the artists!! I never was able to find specific artists ones that I wanted. Just SC ones and a few of the top billings.

Figure about $20-25 for a Tshirt and I paid somewhere around $35 for my zipp up SC sweatshirt. (cheaper for last chance on your way out on Sunday night! )

yea and keep going until you reach the parking lot. the price drops $5 every block you walk. I got down to $10 year before last for a Tshirt

Very true, but for me I have had bad luck with those ones...the seams always end up wrapping around my waste:mad: But for sure a great deal for $5

They come around the campgrounds selling hats and t-s a lot too
