View Full Version : Camera smugglign question

I have a DSLR that I'd love to bring in. Problem is that it's pro level gear which means the body is huge and the lenses I'd use are huge.

With some effort I may be able to sneak it in but if I get caught at the gate it's going to suck because it's a looong walk back to the car. Question is this, say I get it through security, is walking around with this huge thing around my neck going to make staff/security suspicious? Are they going to be checking me for a photo credential since the camera tends to draw attention to itself? That's really my fear is getting it in and then getting busted for having it, that's why I've never brought it in the past. I've seen others who snuck DSLRs into SC but they've been consumer level and more discreet.

Anyone know what the possibility is of getting a photo credential from SC (legitimately or not ;) )? I'd be happy to shoot for SC itself (or any other publication) and give them photos. I love to shoot so I'd gladly forego some fun while "on assignment."

don't bring it, not worth the risk.

as much as I'd love to ask you to take the belt buckle shots, I hope you don't bring it in...you wouldn't have much fun w/that strangling you & getting you into trouble...

I want to bring my DSLR (Canon Rebel) one day - I wondered about the restrictions....

Will they really stop me from bringing it in? I'm not planning on using it to do anything commercial with the pictures - I just like my camera and the photos it takes.

My little pocket camera is okay, but half the fun of taking pictures is getting a really good shot...

Thoughts on the smaller DSLR's?

I like to take pictures of weirdos... Like we'll go to the beach or something and find hideous outfits, stuff hanging out, etc. and take pics.. Brad Paisley at the Ventura County Fair last summer seemed to attract lots of these types.... I have a funny feeling SC is going to be a GREAT people watching/photo op kinda place! Ohh yess! Except my camera broke and mom 'n dad bought me a replacement and I HATE the new camera.... oh well...

Technically they are not allowed. If they see it at the gate they won't let you in with it. You can sneak them in though because I've seen a number of them in years past. I don't think a Reel will draw too much attention unless you've got a big L lens on it.

I may settle for bringing my 30D in which is a much smaller body.

I also just have a Rebel with some Telephoto lenses. The lenses arent bigger than average lenses (the price tag was though) So im thinking I can bring it but I dont know...
We also have a 20D but that has those HUGE $1000+ white lenses on them.Kind of hard to hide;)
