View Full Version : Tips for Tent Camping
I have been both previous years and 1 year did the RV and the other stayed at a family members near by. It is definately worth it to stay on site but since EDII is sold out I am not sure if it is in the budget.
Has anyone stayed in the tent camping before that has any suggestions or tips and what you thought about it?
THANKS!!!

Hi AngC...welcome!
Most of these posters have stayed in the tent area and I have not heard anything dissapointing..oh wait, except the bright lights and the crazy partiers! ahaha. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Yes, the sun and the heat woke me up every morning pretty early. There was plenty of partying going on until the wee hours but it was a blast! My stuff was safe and I met a lot of people. I'm tent camping again this year. =)

Bring ear plugs if you plan on getting any shut eye. No joke.
And some shade, like one of those canopys, and stakes and such to tie everything down so the wind won't get it! Camping chairs, TOILET PAPER, wet ones/baby wipes and paper towels.

YES on the TP and wet ones... The showers were not terrible - but plan on showering EARLY if you don't want to wait in a long line. Wish the showers were 24 hours - wonder if they'll change that at all this year?

I heard Get in the truuuuuuuuuuuuuck from miles of tents away!
Yes, baby wipes and TP are a definite must for this year. And a canopy for our tent area.

Seems like they are open later than they were last year. I think last year they closed at midnight.
Are There Showers? What hours can you use the showers?
Yes there are showers, they are free and they are open:
Thursday 6pm - 2am.
Friday 6am - 3pm and 6pm - 2am.
Saturday 6am - 3pm and 6pm - 2am.
Sunday 6am - 3pm and 6pm - 2am.
Monday 6am - 10am

SWEET! Yes, I think they did extend hours, I hadn't seen this yet. I thought it was strange last year that the showers closed at the same time as the festival finished!

You definitely want something that produces shade. That was the best place to pass out at 11:30 AM, because the tent was def. TOOOOO hot!
Forget the ear plugs, just party hard and then pass out. You will sleep just fine. If you don't believe me, ask PBR Frank. Party hard enough you can literally sleep through anything.
Be friendly. Nobody wants to camp next to a party pooper.
It is easier to set up your tent if you arrive before the flood lights are turned off. haha.
The security guards are not ALWAYS your friend.
If the wind picks up while you are at the concert, that means the wind also picked up in the camping area. Beware of fly away tents, blankets, and everything/anything else you have outside your tent.

Oh how I miss PBR Frank with his bottle of Smirnoff in his hand, passed out on the grass in front of my tent. He was quite a character!!

Hey guys... This is my first year tent camping it... Quick question... Do each of us have to buy the $50 ticket and we get as many spaces as we want? or how does that work?

I bring a berkey light water filter (http://www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com/berkeyfiltersystems-c-1/berkeylightwoled-p-180) with me every year. Worse comes to worse I always have a portable water filter that I can use for the thirsty folk! Nothing beats it. Highly recommended if you see a need for one.

A source of shade
TP and wet wipes
Something to cover your eyes if you need dark to sleep in
Tie down your tent!
No worries on my stuff, it was safe as can be
Tip: don't put your deodorant in your tent on top of your sleeping bag.....it melts, just an FYI:eek:
Port a potties are emptied every day, can't complain about that
A cooler with simple snacks and plenty of water, among other beverages
I emptied the water from my cooler everyday into my neighbors baby pool for them for an instant, clean, cold water fill-up
Pack light, I brought everything I thought I might need and used almost none of it - stick to clothing, personal hygiene, food and beverages, pain killers, mini first aid just in case, camera, batteries, camping equipment, keep it simple
I was nervous last year. My then 11 year old daughter and I alone at an all weekend festival. Kind of scary. Never been to anything like this before and didn't know what to expect.
We had the time of our lives. The people were laid back and helped each other out. When my daughter went to the restroom (we could see it from our tent) I stood and watched her. There were folks that were also keeping their eyes out and saying to me "I can still see her mom she's good".
It was easy to figure out where to go and what to do to set up our camp sight and to get to the venue. I was highly impressed and we can't wait to return!
If you can remember a good sense of humor and to go with the flow you'll have a blast. Pop in to say hello, I'll have my user name on my tent again!

this will be our first year tent camping and i keep reading well need shade....any recommendations on what we should take??? i dont want to take anything we wont be allowed to use...also how far is the actual entrance to the field? is it pretty far walk from the forum..? and what about our truck....i know it says we can park it somewhere...thats free i think right? and is that far from the forum? Sorry for so many questions...just want to be prepared! our guys are bigger babies then the girls! im so excited! last year we stayed in a hotel 10ish miles away and after the concert driving was brutal! One of the nights we actually fell asleep in the car waiting for the lot to clear up and woke up at 2:30 am to a completely empty parking lot! it was so funny...and kind of scary!

People bring those pop-up canopies for shade, just make sure you tie it down REAL GOOD!!
The tent forum is a bit of a trek to the entrance, but not as bad as from some of the RV lots....and the tent forum parking lot is adjacent to the forum. The map on the festival site lays it out pretty well!!!

You're saying Forum so I'm assuming you're camping in the Forum tent campground. Right?
I'm doing a beach umbrella with stand because it's just me and my daughter so only one 8X8 space. You get one 8X8 space for every adult that has a camping wristband. (everyone over 14 years old HAS to have one of those, $50 each) So, if your group arrives together you'll get your spaces together and be able to lay out your campsite accordingly. Therefore you can have a 10X10 or bigger pop up canopy or something if you want.
I saw them all over the place last year. (Check out my myspace - my user name is the same there as here, tgcali. I have a bunch of pictures from last year up and several show the campgrounds.)
Parking for the Forum campground is in a lot directly behind the campsite. Right outside of it. The walk to the venue is about 10 minutes, although in the heat it can feel like 30. Bring a bottle of water to drink on the way, just remember you can't bring it into the venue with you. Parking is free for campers. Just picture a gravel lot right next to a grass field that has a wall around it. That's the Forum campground. You park in the gravel lot and camp on the grass.
Hope this helps and keep the questions coming, we're all happy to help around here and a lot of us will be in Forum with you!
HTA is right. Tie it down! The wind can get brutal and the stadium lights will keep you up at night without something to cover your eyes.....or enough liquid sleep aids.....

Thanks HTA and Tgcali! Very helpful info and im sure i will have many more questions for everyone as it gets closer to the date! Tg, i will check out your myspace when i get home (im blocked from work) and check those out! There will be 4 of us...so i think our tent is about 10x10 or something like that...the walk doesnt sound bad at all! i thought maybe it would a lot farther! thanks again!!
