Okay, I was able to get in contact with a producer at Goldenvoice regarding the situation with ED1 and all of your frustrations. This is how it was explained to me:
Due to the current state of the economy the promoter decided to lower the price of general admission to $99 for the 2 day pass, which is $80 less than the previous year. They did it to make the show more affordable to the greatest number of festival attendee's. Because of this they had to increase the prices of both El Dorado 1 and the International RV Camping areas. Now I know many are assuming that the cost increase has something to do with the wristbands they decided to include in the package prices. This is not the case. The wristbands that are included are thought of as a bonus for RV campers. Based on past experiences with the RV camping in prior years Goldenvoice noticed that hundreds of people purchased the wristbands only as a way to party with friends in the secure camping area. They now realize that this has not been seen as a bonus. I have been told they have operated all of the camping sites at a major loss for the past 2 years and it is admittedly their fault, not the campers, but unfortunately they can no longer operate at a loss and lower the GA prices.
This decision was made to help the 35,000+ GA ticket buyers and to provide more options to the 1000 campers(1000 spots). Those options are 4 places to camp, 3 of them being very affordable. Due to the increase in the price for ED 1 and International they decided to keep ED 2 the same plus include 4 camping wristbands in the deal. That is the same price as 2008. If you have 4 people camping in ED 2 it will be $100 cheaper than in 2008. I was told that they really do realize the price increase in El Dorado 1 is not affordable to everyone, but that they do feel they have provided options for people at all spending levels.
These are the numbers compared to last year that were emailed to me:
Tickets:
$99 weekend pass ($80 cheaper than 2008)
$399 reserved seats 50% of reserved seats (same as 2008)
$499 reserved seats 50% of reserved seats ($100 more than 2008)
On site Camping
$25 Weekend RV parking (New for 2009)
$50 Tent camping (same as 2008)
$250 Eldorado 2 - RV with 4 wristbands (same as 2008 for 2, $100 cheaper for 4)
$500 International - RV with 6 wristbands (increased for 2009)
$750 Eldorado 1 - RV with 6 wristbands (increased for 2009)

Well it also confirms what I said many times...they rob from the rich to help the poor. They admit they had to up the camping to "help" the GA buyers...great...should I buy them their food and drinks also?
Come on..upping to $799 to camp is way over the top. Families who need the hook-ups can't go this year as they can't afford it. How sad it that? And you can't compare that last year it was $500 for 6...we were not MADE to buy 6 last year. So for the average camper with two people in their rigs, they are now screwed out of $500.00!!!! Come on...are you thinking we are all that dumb?
That 20x50 spot this year for $799 does not cost them anymore if only 3 people camp their than if 6 do! It only benefits them to MAKE us buy 4 or 6 tickets!
Then to say they lost out the past two years..I highly doubt that!! They oversold EDI!!! They know exactly how much the property cost, how much the rental for the generators and showers etc are...no guessing and they know how much they are chargin and how many rv's can fit..they knew exactly what they would make. This isn't a guessing game...not like hmmm..how many beers will we sell...it is an actual SET cost!
Not to mention they say 15x50 spots and they were 12-13x45..so they got in more than they say.
A $250 increase for 6 people is insane..let alone AGAIN, really how many people are putting 6 people in their rv's? And why MAKE them buy 6, and to say that we should just consider it a bonus....MY ARSE!!
Why doesn't GV come on here and post themselves...Cooter...are you sure you aren't on their payroll? Just sayin......
Loads of people purchased camping wristbands to go visit friends that were camping? Maybe more like they wanted to not be in jail and have in and out privledges? Just guessing

Yeah..come on, i know some people did fork over $50 to "visit"...but really, you think as many as GV is making it sound, bought them just to hang out and party for $50?? Doubt it!
What was sad, people were walking in and out and no one even checked camping bands at any time I went in and out.

I don't think the $50 wrist band is really the issue right now, although I do not like being "forced" to buy wrist bands, nor were we really complaining about the cost of GA last year.. It's the tremendous increase in the camping fees. (ED1) I would almost prefer the GA be what it was last year...(besides lots of freebie tickets available) and return the camping fees to a more reasonable cost. It wouldn't feel so much like we're getting screwed over..lets face it.. the fans help determine the success of these events

I agree, and same here! One of the reasons our state is now even further in the hole is because everyone decided to vote yes on so many of the ridiculous props which call for the buying of billions of dollars worth of bonds......
Did you know that in June '09 the sales tax in CA will be raised to 10.5%?!? yeah you read that right, it's how they will justify all the bonds being bought...

there is one person who singlehandedly ruined the republican party this year. in a matter of 5 weeks, she screwed all chances of anything at all. her name is Sarah Palin. She might be a cougar but she screwed us. if mccain would have picked condi rice, or romney then we would have had a WAY better chance. personally i would have liked ron paul or giuliani to have won but giuliani ran a stupid election and ron paul makes too much sense for politics.

hate to bust the bubble, but the idea of a state sales tax increase wont work. reason being, people will just buy over the internet and avoid the sales tax all together. but i do agree consumption tax is the way to go . . . at a federal level. it is crazy how many people work on a cash basis and never pay income taxes.

Here's a thought. If you don't like it then don't go. Stay home. If you can't save an extra $100 or so stay home. BTW I paid over $200 in gas going to Palm Springs and back last year. If gas stays in a normal price range that's $100 saving right there. ED2 is just fine. We stayed in the back of ED1 last year about 50 ft from ED2. If you don't want to pay for hook ups then by some gas tanks and use your generator. The bottom line is if you want to go you'll go. I don't care what they charge. I'm putting it on a credit card and will have it paid off in no time. The same people that drop $500 for VIP tickets are complaining about a couple $100 to camp up to 4 nights and have the best time ever. Vegas is well over $100 per night and a concert ticket there is $100 for a couple hours. To be honest I really don't remeber most of the concerts last year. I do remember having some of the best times ever in the RV area. Stage Coach is an experience that is impossible to reproduce. It's money well spent IMO. An investment in my life. I luv it.

bluesily,
You gotta remember it is all perspective...pertaining to whom you are reffering your comment to. It isn't all about just the partiers, it is the families, cash is tight, unemployment is at the highest in the IE.
For something people have enjoyed for the past two years as maybe even their family vacation and just got addicted to it, they can't make it this year. EDII may be ok for you this year in order to say money, but again in perspective, what about a family with small children, or no generator in their camper, and must have hook ups? What about the elderly, budget income, walking tough on them...many diff scenarios to go over.
You are very lucky you even have a credit card with room on it. let alone one that a bank didn't drop to a $100 or $1000 limit..such as Am Exp has been doing, had a $10,000card dropped to $1000 and NEVER used! All due to the economy, they are dropping them like flies.
We are not all in the same boat that you may be in, that you are fortunate enough to have resources to pull from.
People are venting about the rates, and have a right to.

NO MORE non-hookups in ED1 right?

ED2 never stopped the partying....luckily I was able to sleep through it, our group had a huge stereo and played beer pong all night. The isles were filled with people, and I don't think you will be dissapointed.

stagecoach camping veterans... do y'all think they will really fill ed1 with hookup spaces, it is just so hard to believe since last year probably 60% of the space was non-hookup campers.
I just dont want to buy my ed2 camping packet and then have them change it on us a few months before the festival.... then I am stuck in ed2

This is definately for sure...ALL EDI are hookups only unfortunately.
The only non hook-ups are the Handicap ones in EDI.
