George Team Roping Classic

The 27th Annual George Strait Team Roping Classic will take place March 13 and 14, 2009, at the San Antonio Rose Palace in San Antonio, Texas.

The event, which began in 1982, has grown into the most prestigious open Team Roping competition in the country. This past March, nearly 500 teams competed for more than $660,000 in cash and prizes. "The most gratifying thing about putting on the [classic] comes when we present the awards to the winners," says George. "The looks on their faces, the excitement and their words of appreciation make all the hard work worth every minute."

Brooks & Dunn Get Walk of Fame Star
Brooks & Dunn photo courtesy of Arista Nashville

June 27, 2008 — A year ago, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Brooks & Dunn would be receiving a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Finally, according to the duo’s website, the ceremony is set for Aug. 4, a day after they appear in nearby San Bernardino.

Fans are sometimes shocked when country acts wrangle a spot in that famous stretch of concrete, but Brooks & Dunn are particularly appropriate for a Southern California landmark, since their music contains so many pop and rock influences. The Eagles, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones have all been referenced in one way or another in B&D’s music.

"From day one, we’ve been able to get away with a lot of that," Ronnie Dunn told the Associated Press. "We get more resistance from radio with classic country than we do with the classic rock-influenced stuff."

Interestingly, Ronnie and Kix Brooks are landing on the Walk of Fame before all four of those classic-rock acts: the Eagles, Stones, ZZ and Clapton.

But they’re hardly the first country performers inducted. Among the country acts who’ve had their names embedded on that thoroughfare are Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Hank Williams, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Loretta Lynn and Alabama.

Toby Keith is getting the media blitz going for his upcoming film, "Beer For My Horses," starting Monday in New York. The movie opens Aug. 8.
"Beer For My Horses" features Keith and comedian Rodney Carrington as sheriff's deputies chasing a drug lord and kidnapper in classic road trip buddy comedy form. Written by Keith and Carrington, the film was inspired by Keith's hit duet with Willie Nelson, who also appears. The movie soundtrack is in stores Aug. 12.
Keith hits The Colbert Report, making the appearance his third time as a guest on the show, on July 28. On Tuesday, he will be on radio with Sirius Satellite Radio (four channels: Freewheelin', New Country, Blue Collar Comedy and NASCAR), Big D & Bubba, Lia, Danny Wright and another major television stop with CNN's Glenn Beck.
On Wednesday, July 30, Keith does an interview and performance on the CBS Early Show, a stop at FOX & Friends, multiple interviews with FOX News and another round of radio including Rick & Bubba, John Boy & Billy, Glenn Beck Radio, Dr. Drew and Dennis Miller. Keith will also sit for a television interview with Nick News and print sit-downs with Esquire Magazine and US Weekly.
On Thursday, Keith performs and interviews on The View. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Keith will do concerts in St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. He heads west and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson Monday night, Aug. 4 for airing Aug. 8. The next morning, Keith calls in to G. Gordon Liddy's nationwide radio show, then books over to Burbank, Cal. and a live performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Later, he'll call in to the Alan Colmes Show.

Johnny Cash Documentary Airs On Pbs Next Week
A 40-year-old documentary about Johnny Cash that airs next week on PBS shows him in concert and in casual settings, but makes no mention of his well-documented drug problems. The documentary "Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music" was made over several months in 1968 and 1969. Director Robert Elfstrom says his portrayal differs from what moviegoers saw in the 2005 film "Walk the Line" for a reason. He says he didn't want to cloud the purity of the story with Cash's substance abuse problems. He says "I felt it was irrelevant to his art." The documentary airs Tuesday. It shows Cash hunting; signing autographs; posing for photos; and listening attentively to an aspiring singer. Additionally, Cash and a young Bob Dylan are shown in a studio recording a duet, "One Too Many Mornings

John Rich Writes Song For John Mccain

John Rich has gone the extra mile in trying to get out the vote for John McCain. He's written a campaign anthem for McCain called, "Raisin' McCain." The song focuses on the 5 1/2 years McCain spent as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. The song says "He stayed strong, stayed extra long til they let all the other boys out. Now we've got a real man with an American plan, we're going to put him in the big White House. The song's refrain says "We're all just raising McCain." Rich says he finished the song about a month ago and sent it to McCain's daughter Meghan, who sent it onto campaign officials. Rich says "I wanted to offer him something that he didn't have, a rally song, one that really captures that maverick spirit." Rich is offering the song on his Web site free of charge.

Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes Featured on Elvis Duets Album

Carrie Underwood and LeAnn Rimes weren't yet born when Elvis Presley died in 1977, but they're just two of the country artists who will be featured singing with the King on Elvis Presley Christmas Duets, a new album being created as a partnership between Elvis Presley Enterprises and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Set for release on Oct. 14, the project will also feature Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson, Anne Murray, Wynonna and Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman. Martina McBride adds her voice to Presley's most famous holiday hit, "Blue Christmas." According to a press release, Sony BMG used advanced audio technology for the album. For songs that were originally recorded as a single mono track, new musical beds were created to match the instrumentation from the '50s. On later recordings made on multi-track tape where Presley's voice is isolated on a single track, segments of his vocals were removed to allow for the new overdubs. Sample tracks will be previewed Aug. 14 during the 2008 Elvis Week in Memphis, Tenn.

Horse,

I'm sure you already know that next week is "Elvis week", Memphis will be packed. I can't believe Lisa Marie has two grown kids and is starting all over again. I had also heard about the Duets Album. TNT will usually run non-stop elvis next weekend. From what I have heard over the years that RCA has so much Elvis music in it's vaults that have never been released before. Elvis would usually record 30-50 songs per album and only 10-15 would make the cut.

P.S. Thanks for the posts and thinking of me!

Elvis' peacock jumpsuit sells for $300K
Aug. 7, 2008, 10:24 AM EST
Elvis Presley's favorite performance costume, the peacock jumpsuit, has sold for $300,000, making it the most expensive piece of Elvis memorabilia sold at auction.

The online sale by auctioneer Gotta Have It! ended at 3 a.m. Thursday. The pre-sale estimate was $275,000 to $325,000.

The white outfit with a plunging V-neck and high collar features a blue-and-gold peacock design hand-embroidered on the front and back and along the pant legs.

The previous record for an Elvis collectible is $295,000 for one of his classic cars. The most ever paid previously for one of his stage costumes, a bejeweled cape, was $105,250. Both were sold at a 1999 auction at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, run by Guernsey's.

I would love to go and thank you so very much for the kind invitation but I'm currently buried in work.

Did somebody buy this for me as a Christmas gift?

Sugarland's Nettles and Bush Sued by Former Bandmate

Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush are being sued by former bandmate Kristen Hall for more than $1.5 million, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Filed July 29 in federal court in Atlanta, the suit contends that Hall created the band's name and that she, Nettles and Bush entered into an agreement to equally share profits and losses. After leaving the band in 2005 to pursue a solo career as a singer-songwriter, Hall claims she was excluded from the profits. Noting that the three original members worked together to build Sugarland's success from mid-2002 until Dec. 20, 2005, the lawsuit states, "Hall contributed significant time, effort, energy and passion toward the creative and commercial success of Sugarland." Hall was involved in writing all of the songs on the band's debut album, Twice the Speed of Life, which has sold more than 2 million copies. After Hall's departure, Sugarland's second album, Enjoy the Ride, also sold more than 2 million copies and remains at No. 5 on Billboard's country chart. The duo's new album, Love on the Inside, has already sold almost 500,000 since its release two weeks ago and is at No. 1 this week on Billboard's pop and country albums chart. Hall is seeking profits from the partnership, interest, attorney fees and an accounting of the partnership. In an interview with the Fulton County Daily Report, a newspaper catering to the legal profession, Hall's attorney, Barry A. O'Neil, said the trio had attempted for several years to negotiate a resolution. Although he acknowledged that no written contract exists, he noted, "Partnerships are formed all the time without written agreement. That doesn't mean there wasn't a partnership." A spokesman for Mercury Records said the label and the group have no immediate plans to comment on the lawsuit.

First off....yes I'm a loon
The last time I ordered from Graceland's web sight was for the Barbie Loves Elvis dolls and when it arrived the box was a tad dented. Since I'm a collector everything I have is still in their original boxes and most have never been opened. I try to find the best box possible without any dents or scratches.

See, I prove my point...LOONEY

No you are not...
Just a smart collector.I totally see your point on that....

Glen Campbell Remembers Elvis Presley

Glen Campbell says Elvis Presley was one of the best singers to ever come along. As a session musician, Campbell played on some of Presley's songs. Campbell says, "He was incredible." He says the two became friends because they grew up the same way, "dirt poor, no electricity, picking cotton." Campbell says, "that's why we hit it off. We had so much in common." Tomorrow marks 31 years since Elvis Presley died at Graceland. He was 42.

The Oak Ridge Boys Auctioning Off Private Performance On Ebay
Richard Sterban of the Oak Ridge Boys is hoping to mix business and pleasure. The band is auctioning off a private New Year's Eve performance to the highest bidder on eBay and he's hoping the winner is from the Caribbean, that way it would work out with his own New Years plans. Sterban is headed to the Dominican Republic January 2nd and says "if it was somewhere down in that part of the world, it would make it a little more convenient for me." The auction winner gets an intimate show for family and friends in the venue of his or her choice. Sterban says they'd even perform in a living room. And it wouldn't be the first time. He says they've performed several times for former President Bush and his wife Barbara in their living room in Kennebunkport, Maine. The Oak Ridge Boys concert has a starting bid of $25,000. The eBay auction runs through Sunday.

But they will also take on a more familiar role at the awards show: performers. Both have also been asked to sing on the show, which is set to air live from the Sommet Center in Nashville on November 12th. It will be broadcast live on ABC. Brad Paisley Gets Punked By Jewel

Brad Paisley got punked by Jewel. Paisley was handcuffed and thrown into the back of a police car after his private jet landed at Nashville's airport Saturday night. At one point, Paisley said, "You gotta be kiddin'," and the officer said sternly, "Do I look like I'm kidding?" Paisley said, "You don't, but I've never done anything wrong in my life." The officer who arrested him said Jewel had filed over 40 charges against him in Texas and Tennessee for "excessive noodling." Paisley asked, "On the guitar?" and the officer said, "Yes." At that point, Paisley knew it was a joke. He said, "You know what, I'm guilty" and started laughing. Paisley says that was the best he's ever been had. Paisley's prank-filled tour with Jewel and Chuck Wicks ended Saturday.

Tim Mcgraw Releases Children's Book

Tim McGraw is out with a children's book called "My Little Girl." It tells the story of a father, in a dark cowboy hat, who spends a fun day with his daughter, stopping by a farm co-op, gazing up at the clouds and playing on a tire swing. McGraw says his three daughters are not always interested in doing things he wants to do, like going to the farm to "shoot guns or ride four-wheelers in the mud when it's 40 degrees." So, instead, he has found that his three daughters like coming along while he does simple, everyday stuff, like going to the grocery store or stopping by the office. He says "it makes all the difference in the world" for dads just to spend time with their daughters. "My Little Girl" hits stores today.

Faith Hill Gives Herself A Revealing Birthday Present
Faith Hill is posing in a bikini on the cover of Shape magazine's December issue. She calls it her "41st birthday present" to herself. Hill credits pilates for giving her a beach-ready body and says she can now bend in ways that she hasn't been able to since she was a teenager. But working out hasn't always been a priority for her. She says in her 20s and 30s, she would go through phases with exercise -- "working out for four weeks before a big tour or video shoot and not doing much afterward." Then, she had three kids with husband Tim McGraw and decided to make a lifestyle change. Now she does the elliptical, lifts weights, and goes to Pilates classes three times a week. Shape magazine's December issue comes out Nov. 10th.

Is it not bad enough she already has Tim....???

I really like Kid Rock because he is all over the place on his music and has always been that way. His CD goes from Country to rock to gospel to blues to jazz and back to Country again. Depending on how old your little rednecks are, his CD is definitely PG rated.

Sugarland is always a "must" purchase for me. I fell in love with them for the first time when they opened up for Brooks & Dunn at the Universal Amp and I was hooked straight out of the gate.

from billboard:

Kenny Chesney scores his fifth No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and eighth Top Country Albums as "Lucky Old Sun" (BNA) moves 176,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. However, this marks the lowest sales debut for one of his studio album since "Everywhere We Go" bowed with 30,000 at No. 51 in 1999.

Other than that it's filler. I talk to Ashton Shepherd's uncle all the time in my early bronco message board. He seams pretty close to her. I may have to hit him up if she makes it to stagecoach. I've seen them at The Mint, the Key Club, and Green Valley Ranch in Vegas over the past year. And EVERY time I go thru the M&G line, I bend their ear about "you HAVE to play Stagecoach!" The first time at the Mint, they were like "what's that??" By Vegas, Charles knew me as the Stagecoach girl and said "Yeah! I think we're booked." YEEEE-FRIGGIN-HAW! Let's hope it's true!

Johnny Cash's voice can be heard narrating the New Testament on a DVD that goes on sale tomorrow. It's part of a collection that includes a CD of Cash singing his favorite gospel songs. Cash's son, John Carter Cash, says years ago, his dad was approached to record the entire New Testament, and it took over 19 hours on quite a few cassette tapes. The younger Cash says hearing his father's voice in this format is very nostalgic, because his family would skip church sometimes and Johnny Cash would read the Bible to them out loud. I have not had a chance to listen yet...
Know I have to go get it..
Wait was it good or bad?
I love how much time you all save me from learning in here....

Not bad. Still Toby. To me it sounded like more of his older stuff. Kinda like he was in there with some studio guys and being told what to play. The last few with Emerick sounded more like they were a band having fun.

Tim Mcgraw To Host Snl

Tim McGraw is set to host "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 22. He realizes that he's not exactly known for his comedy but says anyone who has been to his shows might feel differently." McGraw's new movie, "Four Christmases," is coming out four days after his SNL debut. And he says hopefully hanging around co-stars Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon and Jon Favreau is "good training" for the show. There have only been a handful of country music stars who have hosted "Saturday Night Live." They include Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and, most recently, Garth Brooks in 1999.

He had to be talking about the stagecoach board from last year...lol

Toby Keith Plans To Skip The Cma Awards

Don't expect to see Toby Keith tonight at the CMA Awards. He tells People.com the Country Music Association "screwed" him. He says he hasn't been to a CMA Awards show in four years, and he knows "everybody is going to say it's sour grapes," but he doesn't care. Keith was named the top-earning Country star by Forbes this year. And he says that's the title he'd rather win. His distaste for the CMAs came after walking away empty-handed in 2003 and 2004, despite receiving a total of 13 nominations. Meanwhile, Keith's new album, "That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy," debuted at No. 1 on the country charts last week.

Blake Shelton Releases New Album

If you want to learn more about Blake Shelton, listen to his new album, "Startin' Fires." He calls it the most autobiographical record he's ever made. Shelton says there are a lot of songs on the CD about driving back roads, planting corn, watching deer and drinking beer -- all things he does everyday when he's home. Shelton is also doing something in this album that he's always wanted to do, sing a song that mentions deer. And he says he finally found one that isn't cheesy. His song "Green" has a line in it about a couple of deer on the timberline. "Startin' Fires" drops today.

Behind The Scenes Of Martina Mcbride's "Blue Christmas" Video With Elvis
CouMartina McBride steps back in time in the new video for her "Blue Christmas" duet with Elvis Presley. McBride basically walks onto the stage of Elvis' 1968 "comeback" TV special. The video's producer tells USA Today that there's a spot between guitarist Scotty Moore and Elvis that's open, "like somebody should have been sitting there." So they figured out a way to put McBride in that spot. They also scoured the footage and picked shots of Elvis throughout the special to make it look like they are interacting. There are shots where Elvis and McBride share the frame, where he looks over at her, and she looks back at him, singing and smiling. McBride filmed her parts in front of a green screen, and it took four weeks to piece together.
